VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana awarded the Founder’s Award at their annual conference earlier this month.
The award is given annually to someone who has made significant contributions in their field and is dedicated to promoting the values of the organization.
This year, the award was given to Deborah Kesler. She is the Vigo County Juvenile Chief Probation Officer and has worked in her field for 42 years.
Kesler plans to retire next year and said receiving this honor was an emotional moment for her.
“I’m very honored and I’m very humbled by it, and there are so many good officers in my department alone. I have wonderful officers and, so, to have this award is really humbling,” Kesler said.
She added that her favorite part of her job has been working to help young people have a better life.
