VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local leaders reflect on their memories with Plasse and say that the community lost a great man.
As the Wabash Valley mourns the loss of Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, those who worked with him are honoring a man that left a lasting legacy of service, kindness, and leadership. THPD Sergeant Justin Sears says he learned a lot from working with Plasse.
“I couldn’t thank him enough for the lessons that I’ve learned from him just by setting the example, or by holding me accountable when I needed to be held accountable,” Sears said. “He was a very compassionate man, but he was obviously capable of putting you on the right course if it needed to fit the city mission of the city police or even the sheriff’s department.”
Sheriff Plasse inspired those that worked with him, but his character also reached the younger generation. Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer says he often took an interest in and showed care to the families of his peers as well.
“Having a daughter that really looked up to John, and he was always so gracious to her,” Switzer said. “Always took the time to spend some time with her. She’s 10, they first met when she was five, and just that conversation he had with her at a young age, but giving her his undivided attention.”
Public visitation for Plasse will be held on July 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at Hulman Center with the funeral service immediately after.
