FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The devastation of Tuesday’s storm left trees down all over the Wabash Valley. Railroad tracks were not exempt from the damage.
Bryant McCuan, Vice President Engineering for Indiana Rail Road, reported having over 300 trees down on rails between Terre Haute and Linton. In addition, there were over 150 in the Bloomington area.
McCuan said that the storm just kept causing more and more damage and they had most of their crews working on other projects away from the area.
They were able to mobilize 12 crew members with chainsaws. McCuan noted they brought in a high rail, which is an excavator that runs on the rails. He said by using that it was safer for their crew members.
They worked from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday clearing the trees. Then on Wednesday afternoon they headed to the tracks south of Springhill Road in Terre Haute to clear off trees that had fallen on a train.
According to McCuan, by Wednesday afternoon they had it all cleared off and were operating normally.
