TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– An inmate in the Terre Haute Federal Correctional Complex was just sentenced an extra 32 months for possession of an improvised weapon.
Javon Britton, 44, of Georgia was convicted in 2015 for robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm. He was then sentenced in Georgia to 11 and a half years. During this time he has been serving his sentence at the Terre Haute complex.
On April 29 of 2019 Britton was exiting the prison dining hall and came upon a walk through metal detector. Upon entering, staff realized he had something metal in his possession. After being patted down by an officer a homemade weapon was found in his right jacket pocket.
The weapon was made out of a combination of a padlock attached to a belt. As the weapon was discovered Britton attempted to flee but was then tackled by multiple officers. The officers were able to subdue Britton and remove the improvised weapon.
A release from the Department of Jusice said Britton’s case was then extended by 32 months as a result.
