PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Duke Energy Foundation has awarded local programs with shareholder-funded grant money designed to fast track Hoosiers into positions of demand in our region.
Duke Energy announced today that they have awarded grants to both Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the Western Indiana Workforce Investment Board in an effort to foster workforce development in much needed areas of our region.
“Time and again, we hear from local business leaders across our service territory that a skilled workforce is key to economic development,” said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “These investments will expand the state’s skilled talent pool, create opportunities for individuals facing barriers to employment, and strengthen Indiana’s competitiveness when attracting companies.”
Rose-Hulman was awarded $3,000 towards their program for robotics. Rose-Hulman’s program mentors and manages local high school robotics teams. Participation for the program is free of charge to any Vigo County high school student including those that are homeschooled or strictly online.
The Western Indiana Workforce Investment Board however plans on putting their $7,000 grant to use supporting JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) programs. These programs are located in Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo Counties to help build a resilient workforce that helps students learn in-demand employability skills. This program is a way to help those graduates build a bridge between finishing secondary education and career advancement opportunities.

Additionally, the Foundation recently awarded $3,000 to Heart To Heart Women’s Resource Center as well. Those funds will reportedly allow the organization to develop an online curriculum that will help streamline their services and reduce paper waste.
