TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Dog families attempted to beat the heat at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute.
The Pup-A-Palooza raised money for the Council On Domestic Abuse and bring awareness to their emergency shelter downtown. Executive director Emily Murray says that the pet aspect holds an important message.
“We wanted to raise awareness to the fact that our emergency shelter is pet friendly,” Murray said. “Often times, if people are wanting to flee a relationship where there is domestic violence, they won’t leave if they can’t take their pet, which I totally understand, because my pets are like my kids. We want to raise awareness for that and then we are also just raising money for our operations.”
The festivities included live music, food trucks, and dog treat vendors to ensure everyone had a good time. Murray says that the event could see a return next year.
“This is our first year for Pup-a-palooza,” Murray said. “Last year we did a different dog-related event so hopefully we are going to do pup-a-palooza again next year but on a cooler day.”
