NEOGA, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s smooth waters and smooth pavement at the Lake Mattoon Marina. The marina parking lot is now freshly paved and painted.
The lot used to be made up of dusty gravel. Mattoon city officials said the makeover is part of a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The money was previously used toward a now-completed shoreline stabilization project. Soon, the lake will see even more amenities and upgrades through the funds. Those include an ADA fishing pier, three new playgrounds, new picnic tables and basketball hoops, improved erosion control and a roof replacement for the Campground West Pavilion.
“These upgrades are designed to improve accessibility, provide more recreational opportunities, and ensure the long-term health and beauty of our amazing lake,” city officials wrote in a social media post.
The Lake Mattoon Marina is located at 1282 County Road 3600 East in Neoga.
