WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Our Community Foundation located in Washington Indiana has awarded a $750 grant to RSVP of Daviess County in an effort to fund training to help out non-English speakers.
RSVP’s mission is to engage with community members of age 55 or more in meaningful volunteer service that strengthens the well-being of self and community. Over the next several months the grant money will be used to provide staff with language education to help build better relations with members of the community whose native language is not English. They believe this will serve as help for a critical need for clear communication in Daviess County and the challenges the charitable organizations are facing to serve non-English Speakers.
“Jennifer Johns, Volunteer Coordinator and I are excited to bridge the gap between us and those of other cultures,” Executive Director Emily Ramsey said. “Now, anyone who doesn’t speak English and comes to our office must bring a translator. We want to eliminate the need for a translator and help all feel welcome in engaging with us about our services and volunteer opportunities.”
