TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Terre Haute Day 2024’s Juneteenth celebration has announced its list of festivities for this year’s celebration.
It was announced June 5 that T&C Group has taken the role of title sponsor allowing for an increase in activities for the event. Since its inception in 2020, Terre Haute Day has evolved from a day of celebration to now being a week-long celebration from June 10-15.
These activities will include youth leadership events, entrepreneurs pitch competition, black business expo, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, gospel hour, family firework celebration and more. Last year 5,000 members of the community showed up to show their support and this year aims to be even bigger.
“Partnering with T&C Group for the 2024 Terre Haute Day represents a significant milestone in our journey to honor Juneteenth while creating an event that will bring people back to Terre Haute,” said Daniel Shouse, Founder of the Terre Haute Day Organizing Committee. “This sponsorship not only amplifies our efforts to make Juneteenth more widely recognized and celebrated but also underscores our shared commitment to diversity, inclusion, and unity.”
Juneteenth celebrates the day June 19, 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce the end to the Civil War and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Today it serves as a day to honor the continuing struggle for freedom and equality.
