VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sunday morning at around 7:15 a.m. crews were called to the scene of a fire with entrapment at the Outdoor Recreation Club on Seelyville Ave. that resulted in a fatality.
Seelyville Deputy Fire Chief John Hendrix explained how the crew handled the situation.
“Upon arrival we found a pull-behind camper fully involved with an occupant,” he said. “We were unable to make entry at that time because the nature of the structure had already deteriorated to the point where it collapsed.”
Hendrix said that these are the situations they train for.
“Every fire is approached the same way,” he said. “We treat every fire like someone could be inside regardless of what is told to us on the radio, because you honestly never know.”
He said that the family will be in his prayers as this investigation continues.
“Obviously, our hearts and thoughts go out to the family because this is a very hard time for them,” he said. “The process will go through the sheriff’s office as they do their investigation, state fire marshal, as well as the coroner and then they will go from there.”
The cause of the fire as well as the cause of death are still under investigation. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time.
