TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Excitement was in the air as downtown Terre Haute opened the long-planned Larry Bird Museum.
A project from the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board, the museum is the culmination of years of dedication from organizers.
To celebrate the opening of the museum, a Downtown Hoopsfest was held Thursday. The festival included a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, inflatables for kids, food trucks, live music, and the star of the show, Larry Bird, live on stage.
WTWO aired a special broadcast hosted by Good Day Live host and meteorologist Julie Henricks and WTWO Sports Director Grant Pugh surrounding the festivities.
During the show local officials like Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun and Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer addressed the crowd, discussing the excitement surrounding this new museum. Officials with the Capital Improvement Board also detailed the years-long effort that went into making this museum a reality. And Larry Bird addressed the crowd live in Terre Haute as well as speaking with the media during a private news conference. The entire show can be viewed in the player at the top of this article.
