SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A semi driver was arrested aftering crashing into an Indiana Department of Transportation vehicle, according to Sullivan County Sheriff Jason Bobbitt.
During the overnight hours of May 27, a Sullivan County deputy and a Sullivan City police officer were conducting traffic control following a train versus tree collision on U.S. Highway 41 near Silver Street in Sullivan. As the work continued INDOT crew members joined the scene for assistance.
A semi-tractor then collided with the INDOT vehicle while the workers were at the scene, although no one was injured. The driver of the semi, later identified as Shamseldin Elghorab of Minneapolis, left the scene of the wreck. He was located and arrested a short time later.
The INDOT vehicle was damaged heavily on its front end and was towed from the scene.
68-year-old Elghorab was charged with criminal recklessness, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.
