KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Storm damage clean-up and power restoration efforts continued Monday in parts of the Wabash Valley following Sunday’s storms.
The storms initially knocked out power to thousands in the Wabash Valley, especially in our southern counties. Power has been restored to many, but you can see the latest numbers on Duke Energy’s Outage Map and WIN Energy’s Outage Map.
A WTWO crew found downed trees and power lines in southern Knox County, as well as some structural damage such as a collapsed pole barn near Decker.
The barn’s owner Mike Johnson described the scene Sunday night, noting heavy rain and lightning in the sky, and says he could hear a really loud wind.
“We went to the basement because we were under a tornado warning. Well, that passed. We went outside and saw my pole barn down on top of my farm equipment. I went up to the other place and the other pole barn had been moved two or three feet and was still standing, but it wasn’t good,” says Johnson.
We reached out to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis which tells us they’ve been in contact with Knox County’s EMA Office. The NWS Indianapolis plans to send a team to Knox County on Tuesday to take a look at the damage.
