PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Rockville couple have been arrested, facing charges related to the death of their 3-month-old child.
According to Indiana State Police, Ashlyn G. Casey, 18, and Jordan Washington, 24, both of Rockville are in custody following an investigation into the death of a 3-month old infant that was brought to Union Hospital in Clinton by Casey on May 17.
Investigation showed the death occurred in Rockville. An autopsy of the child on May 20 showed the death was due to malnutrition according to Sergeant Matt Ames.
“This is an instance where an infant wasn’t being taken care of,” he said. “The result of the infant not having the proper food, proper care and being malnutritioned is the result of the death.”
On Friday afternoon, Ames provided an update on the status of the parents to a WTWO reporter.
“Both individuals have just been arrested at the Indiana State Police Putnamville post,” he said. “They were transported to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, then the Parke County Sheriff’s Department will come and pick them up on the warrant and transfer them back to Parke County and they will wait to see the judge in the future.”
“After completing several interviews and executing a search warrant, Casey and Washington were both arrested today (Friday) at the Putnamville State Police Post on an active warrant issued out of Parke County for neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Both were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail,” an ISP news release states.
Indiana State Police said they are conducting the investigation and thanked the Parke County Prosecutor’s Office, Rockville Police Department, and the Parke County Coroner’s office for their assistance in the investigation.
