TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The city of Terre Haute recently repainted new striping on several downtown streets.
The street re-striping project focused on Cherry, Wabash, Ohio, and Walnut Streets. Crews worked from around the railroad tracks to 3rd Street.
Mayor Brandon Sakbun said the city will continue to look at other streets throughout the city and re-stripe those as well.
When the city does projects like this, Mayor Sakbun said crews take steps to minimize disruptions for drivers.
“When the city does re-striping, we do it in the very early hours of the morning, or later in the evening, so these are kind of off-peak drive hours so that way the paint can dry and individuals aren’t driving over it,” Sakbun said.
The city said the goal of this project is to improve street safety.
Meanwhile, Mayor Sakbun also said residents should notice some improvements to benches throughout the city.
Terre Haute has a contract with Hoosier Ad Sales for the town’s benches located at bus stops and other intersections. The city recently contacted the company about maintaining the benches.
Mayor Sakbun said the company got to work immediately on upgrading them. He also mentioned that speaking of public transit, the city is hoping to get several new buses in circulation this summer.
The Mayor reminded children under 18 can ride the city bus in the summer for free.
