SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana State Police’s investigation into an officer involved shooting last month in Sullivan County has been turned over to the prosecutor’s office for review.
That’s according to Indiana State Police Sergeant Matt Ames.
The shooting happened on April 10 on Tulip Tree Lane in Sullivan. Sullivan County deputies went to a home to serve a protective order to 54-year-old Cameron Lee Atkins of Sullivan.
Police said Atkins pointed a firearm at deputies, who then drew their handguns and shot him. An autopsy determined Atkins died from a gunshot wound by law enforcement.
The deputies involved were placed on administrative leave, which is customary in these situations.
