TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This is the 50th National EMS Week and on Tuesday, Union Health and Terre Haute Regional Hospital put on an EMS competition.
It’s called the Wabash Valley EMS Challenge and the event was open to EMS teams from around the area. Teams competed in both advanced life support and basic life support, with participants given a scenario and then graded by judges.
Barry Nicoson, the System Manager for EMS and Emergency Preparedness at Union Hospital, says they want to continue holding this event in the future and give EMS personnel the appreciation they deserve.
“They need recognition and an opportunity for them to show off what they’re good at and how good they are at what they do,” Nicoson said. “This is an opportunity for them to showcase what they’re doing. They deserve everything.”
Several community partners helped put on the event, from assisting with the simulation to providing trophies and gift cards for the winners, and free lunch was provided for all involved.
