TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — On Tuesday, the Vigo County Council approved an economic revitalization area for a business looking to bring about 90 jobs.
Last week, officials from Zinkpower USA came forward with the proposal, which is in its early stages. The business would be located on property near the trailer manufacturer Great Dane in the northern part of the county.
Zinkpower works to protect steel from corrosion .
Last Tuesday, Zinkpower requested a tax abatement for the 50 million project. Tonight’s approval by the council, of an economic revitalization area, means that next month, the council will consider a 10 year standard abatement for real and personal property.
“What we’re saying tonight is that area up there by Great Dane does qualify to be in a tax abatement area,” said Todd Thacker, president of the Vigo County Council.
Also the council debated a request from the Vigo County Commissioners for additional funding.
Thacker said commissioners want 75 thousand dollars to pay for legal services for a L.D.A. or local distribution agreement.
Thacker said he would like to have more communications with the commissioners about the issue.
The council tabled the request.
Zinkpower is based out of Texas. Officials said the company would bring about 100 construction jobs and 90 full-time jobs when the facility opens– right now the timeline would be sometime in late 2025.
