TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Some local educators were honored for their contributions to the Vigo County School Corporation on Friday morning.
The annual Circle of Honor Awards were held at Terre Haute North High School.
The awards are given out to recognize those who have demonstrated a commitment to Vigo County Schools.
This year, a total of 13 awards were given out.
Sandy Billing was one of the recipients. She taught at Sugar Creek Elementary for more than two decades but is still active in the school corporation. She is a mainstay of the Vigo County Heritage Education Museum and has been there since it was founded.
Billing says she loved her time as a teacher and wants to give back to the community.
“There are still people out there who have high school reunion groups and they come back to the museum with so many great stories to tell about their school days,” explained Billing. “It keeps me busy and keeps my brain active, too.”
