TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Several officers in the Terre Haute Police Department were recognized Friday as part of the 33rd annual THPD Officers Recognition and Commendation Dinner. The ceremony was held at the Terre Haute Convention Center.
Police Lieutenant John Callahan was named Officer of the Year for 2023 and “The Mike Dinkel Memorial Award” was presented to Jennifer Todd. In addition to the awards ceremony a number of retirees were recognized for their service to the department.
WTWO’s Julie Henricks was one of the individuals tasked with presenting the awards. Also participating in the evening`s program was Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun.
Sergeant Justin Sears said it’s important to honor our local law enforcement.
“It’s good that we recognize the above and beyond that our officers do. They sign up to do a job at a lot of times is thankless and we do know that and we’re okay with that. But as an administration, as a community it’s good to recognize these guys for the things that they do every year. it means a lot,” he said.
