TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Tim Yocum is running for State Representative in District 42.
He is the president of the Vermillion County Commissioners and chairman of the county’s Republican Party.
Yocum says his experience with local government gives him a unique perspective that he plans to take with him to the state capitol, if elected.
He says his campaign is completely self-funded, adding he is not beholden to any corporation or entity.
When asked why he decided to run for the Statehouse, he said the people of this district deserve a representative who will be there for his constituents.
“In the past, there hasn’t been quite the representation that I believe the 42nd needed,” Yocum says. “We need someone who will be there for the people. We need someone there, when they show up at the Statehouse, you greet them, and be someone that they feel like they can really relate to in the 42nd. I love people and, in government, as far as an elected official, if you don’t love people, it’s a rough life.”
Indiana’s Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, May 7.
