DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Tracy “TC” Cook is running against Ron Arnold in the race for Daviess County Commissioner District One in the Republican primary.
Cook served as the President of the Daviess County Chamber of Commerce for two years– an experience he said was integral in his decision to run for the seat.
“Being a part of the Chamber of Commerce and getting behind the scenes on some things and seeing how things are going, I looked at it and said, ‘They’re are some changes that need to be made,’” he said.
His main goals are to find ways to bring more visitors into the community through things like sports tourism. That will help support another one of his main priorities– supporting small business owners.
“I want to make sure we have a vision for the whole county, and that vision will be to empower small businesses,” he said. “Yes having large businesses and lots of jobs, that’s great and good and I get it. But we have to empower small businesses because those are the businesses that get passed down generation to generation.”
Cook said he has enjoyed meeting new people and educating himself throughout the campaign process.
“Going to town board meetings and hearing the issues and hearing the problems, that’s been just as valuable, you couldn’t put a price tag on that,” he said. “That’s my favorite part.”
The Indiana primary is Tuesday, May 7.
