TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Terre Haute released a statement regarding recent political unrest and to warn about the dangers of antisemitism in the U.S.
CANDLES Executive Director Troy Fears said it’s an issue that’s risen dramatically since the events that transpired on October 7.
Fears added that some Jewish students at colleges across the country have been concerned for their safety during protests on campuses nationwide.
Fears explained that while colleges are places where different ideologies come together, any form of antisemetic speech crosses a line and stressed the importance of remaining peaceful.
“I think that the key to all of it is to have conversations,” Fears expressed. “They need to understand that you’re going to have various difference of opinions and that’s okay, but these colleges and the students need to have the conversations, express their concerns and most importantly make sure each and every student feels safe about going to class.”
