VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Areas of Vincennes and Knox County experienced heavy winds and strong rain last night.
The thunderstorm hit hard and led to several obstacles and cleanup efforts in the community. Major Mike Fisher of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office noted that some people are still feeling the impact.
“There’s been some trees down and things that they are dealing with,” he said. “There’s still several people without some power and without internet capabilities right now and they are working on the lines to try and repair those.”
Some areas felt the storm more than others. Organ Battery and Electric Company in Vincennes had one of their storage buildings ripped from the ground due to the winds. Co-owner Eric Organ is staying optimistic.
“Luckily it was after hours,” he said. “We are very thankful that nobody got hurt and we can’t thank enough all the people that came and helped on the spot and it’s been good on cleanup.”
Drivers should still exercise caution and be on the lookout for fallen trees, debris in the road, and areas where flooding is common while maintenance crews continue their work.
