SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Beecher Illinois woman has been arrested after police say she almost struck emergency vehicles before leading police on a chase.
According to Shelburn Police, the incident occurred on April 4 at 5:48 p.m. on U.S. 41 near Jefferson Street. Police said they attempted to stop the vehicle after it had come dangerously close to striking officers that had been assisting a stranded motorist at the intersection of U.S. 41 and S.R. 48.

Police said the vehicle’s driver, Megan A. Griffith, 36, pulled over well south of Shelburn near the intersection of U.S. 41 and County Road 450 N. When officers approached the vehicle they reported Griffith as being verbally abusive before taking off in her vehicle and fleeing police.
Griffith reportedly refused to pull over despite multiple agencies following her with their lights and sirens activated. A Sullivan County Sheriff’s Deputy reportedly used a stop stick at the intersection of U.S. 41 and S.R. 154 near the Sullivan Walmart, forcing Griffith’s vehicle to stop.
Following Griffith’s arrest investigators found marijuana in the vehicle and in Griffith’s possession. A field sobriety test reportedly showed Griffith to be under the influence.
“A preliminary chemical blood and urine test showed that Griffith was under the influence of a controlled substance (Marijuana) at the time of the traffic stop,” police said.
Shelburn Police thanked the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Duggar Police, and Farmersburg Police for assistance during the incident.
