TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — One person was killed in a single vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Terre Haute.
According to a press release from Terre Haute Police Department (THPD), officers responded at 1:06 a.m. to a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 40 and U.S. 46. The report indicated that a vehicle had veered off the roadway and collided with a tree.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim trapped inside the vehicle.
The release went on to state that Terre Haute Fire Department (THFD) responded quickly and utilized mechanical tools to manipulate the vehicle and extricate the victim from the vehicle.
THFD paramedics immediately initiated life-saving measures and transported the victim to a local hospital for further medical attention. Hours later, the victim succumbed to their injuries.

Out of respect for the family and next of kin, the identity of the victim will not be disclosed until they have been notified.
THPD Detectives and Crash Team Investigators are investigating the incident.
