VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Vigo County man who police said barricaded himself in a vehicle at the end of a pursuit before being taken into custody is on track for a jury trial later this month.
Anthony W. Cheesman, 41, appeared in Vigo County Court on Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing. A court reporter told WTWO that the hearing confirmed things were on track for the planned jury trial on April 30.
Cheesman faces the following charges;
- Possession of methamphetamine
- A level 6 felony
- Resisting law enforcement using a vehicle
- A level 6 felony
- Reckless driving
- A class C misdemeanor
- Escape – basic offence
- A level 5 felony
- Escape – removes or interferes with electronic monitoring
- A level 6 felony
Some of the charges stem from the events of January 26, when Cheesman was arrested after police used “non-lethal methods” to remove him from his vehicle. At the time of his arrest, police noted he had outstanding warrants in Vigo County unrelated to the chase.
Cheesman’s jury trial is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on April 30 in Vigo County Superior Court 3. Vigo County Jail records show Cheesman is being held on $50,000 bond, cash only, with no 10% allowed.
