SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — WTWO’s Dana Winklepleck first met Calvin Cox and his wife Kathie as she walked through tornado damage on the south end of Sullivan the morning after the deadly storm hit.
The couple lost their home. Calvin agreed to let Dana interview him. The Facebook Live has more than 130,000 views. To this day, people still ask Dana about Calvin. She’s glad to say, he’s doing really well, despite some setbacks.
Besides losing their home, which was not insured, the couple’s cars were totaled by flying debris. If all of that, was not bad enough, while moving items to a storage unit, Calvin fell and broke a hip.

But life soon began looking up. The couple says the owner of Yoder Construction agreed to build the outside of a new home for them and the interior walls for free. Calvin and Kathie were then be responsible for finishing up the inside.

“He said God put it on his heart to help us,” said Kathie Cox.
“That’s a wonderful man doing something like that. He didn’t even know me,” added Calvin Cox.
In June construction on the house began. They moved in this past November.

“(It’s) not quite done, all the way done on the inside, on the cosmetic stuff, but I really like it,” said Calvin.
And when asked about his thought of the past year, the man who has continued to maintain a positive attitude smiled and laughed a bit.
“I don’t want another one like this last one. Makes you appreciate more, what you got,” Calvin added.
