TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — The Indiana State Men’s Basketball team received a loud and proud sendoff from fans on Sunday afternoon.
The Sycamores will head to Indianapolis for their NIT tournament quarterfinal matchup against the Utah Utes on Tuesday night. The team looks to build on a magical season that has captured the hearts of the Terre Haute community.
One fan in particular, Susan Mardis, has been a season ticked holder for 50 years. She has seen some special ISU teams, but this one is up there.
“They work hard and they work together,” she said. I just love to see how they collaborate and they know the plays. They work with each other and the coach knows them well, he knows each personality and how to motivate them. To me that’s a winning team.”
Vice President of Student Affairs Michele Soliz noted how great the turnout was and the great things the basketball team is doing for the university.
“We are so thrilled that everyone is coming out to tell our team good job,” she said. “Let’s get this, let’s do this, get the win.”
A win would give the Sycamores a chance for their first NIT championship in program history.
Tuesday’s game will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on ESPN and ESPN+.
