TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Maple Avenue Theater takes a journey down the rabbit hole to wonderland, as they perform Alice By Heart, a touching musical inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
The musical follows a young girl who takes refuge in a London tube station during WWII and confronts grief, loss, and love with the help of her favorite book, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This world premiere musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination even in the harshest of times.
United Methodist Church will be hosting the performances next weekend.
Performers said it’s a story you don’t want to miss.
“Alice in Wonderland is the story that they are trying to escape their reality from. So, it’s kind of a cross between reality interfering with their makeup world and how they come to terms with dealing with that,” Character Red Cross Nurse/Queen of Hearts Heather Williams said.
“Deeply moving and bittersweet. And so if folks enjoy a touching story that deals with difficult big emotions, perfect play to come see,” Character Angus/Caterpillar Sage Waelbroeck said.
