TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — There is just over a week until the season opener at the Terre Haute Action Track.
This year’s season opening event on Friday, April 5 will feature USAC sprints and modifieds. Hot laps will begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m.
Brandon Mattox drives the 28 USAC sprint car. Mattox said he’s been watching races at the track since he was a kid, and being a part of it years later means a lot to him.
Mattox encouraged people to come watch the race and said it’s an experience you can’t quite put into words.
“You can actually feel the ground vibrate when the cars go into turn one at a 140 miles an hour,” Mattox said. “It hits all your senses, not just visually, but when you feel 900 horsepower cars go by and it shakes the ground and you feel it in your chest, it opens a whole other set of senses.”
