TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This weekend more than 400 athletes competed to try and earn their spots in regional and national level gymnastics competitions.
Wabash Valley Tumbling and Gymnastics and Strive 365 were host to this year’s Indiana Optional State Gymnastics and Tumbling Meet.
A competition of this size also means that it is bringing in a lot of people from out of the area to many of the local shops and restaurants Terre Haute has to offer.
For owner and program director of Wabash Valley Gymnastics and Tumbling Michelle Ealy, bringing these big events to this community will always be a top priority.
“I’ve been doing gymnastics here for the 26 years that we have owned our business, so I really enjoy doing local stuff here in town,” she said. “I help with the schools and let athletes come in and train at the facility for things so any time I can do that and bring things in, I’ll do it.”
Ealy also wanted to emphasize how proud it makes her to see all of these wonderful athletes compete at such a high level.
“It is a good feeling to be out here and see this level of gymnastics be on display here in this area,” she said. “As someone who has been a part of this sport for a long time, it is a sight to behold.”
The athletes that receive high enough scores at this meet will go on to compete in regional or national competitions.
