WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saturday morning people of all ages got the chance learn and explore nature at the same time.
The Vigo County Public Library and the Ouabache Land Conservancy teamed up to host a Storytime Hike. This consisted of hiking the Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve and taking some breaks to read and learn about the surrounding area.
The book that was read on this hike was “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss. Officials thought that this would give them plenty of opportunities to inform those involved about the types and importance of the trees around them.
Denise Sobieski was the leader of this hike, and she expressed the importance of enjoying and preserving the outdoors.
“Get people outside, get kids started with this sort of activity,” she said. “We also need to protect more of our land, hence, please support the Ouabache Land Conservancy.”
Sobieski couldn’t help but point out how great the synergy is between these two organizations when it comes to trying to preserve the outdoors.
“The library is obviously focused on books, reading, and education, which are all things that go hand-in-hand with our organization,” she said. “They aren’t exactly the same things but together we make a great pairing in trying to properly education preservation in Vigo County.”
The next nature hike will be on April 27th at 10 a.m. at the Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve.
