TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Special Olympics Indiana have announced the details surrounding their annual youth and adult basketball tournaments.
According to a release from the Special Olympics, the 52nd annual State Basketball Tournament will take place from March 23-24 for adult competitors, and the youth tournament is scheduled for April 7.
Athletes from across 40 counties in Indiana will take part in the Special Olympics Indiana’s annual state basketball tournaments. The adult tournaments will be held at the Pacers Athletic Center at Grand Park.
The Indiana Youth Basketball Tournament will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the opening ceremony beginning at noon. The youth tournament will be held at the University of Indianapolis on April 7. The release notes, “Special Olympics Indiana conducts the only Special Olympics basketball tournament in the world dedicated solely to youth players.”
The competitions will feature teams from all over the state competing in varying divisions, for men, women, and unified sports, along with an individual skills competition.
As one of the largest Special Olympics basketball tournaments in North America, the Men’s and Women’s State Basketball Tournaments have more than 900 athletes involved.
With sectional and area tournaments held throughout Indiana leading to the state tournaments, a total of over 2,000 athletes and unified partners, along with 253 teams participated this season.
