SULLIVAN, CO. (WTWO/WAWV) — On march 4, the Sullivan County Election Board voted unanimously to proceed with steps to become a vote center county.
Friday night, the election board hosted a public forum to hear the responses from the public. Vote center counties offer flexibility and convenience to voters by allowing them to cast a ballot at any county location of their choosing on election day.
Some residents expressed concerns about loosing locations to vote due to low voter turnout. Officials expressed that there will be other ways to get those voters to other locations. One official mentioned transportation options and a roaming voting center.
Sullivan County Clerk Tonya Bedwell said this could increase the county’s voter turnout.
“It can be very discouraging when somebody is waiting in line and get up there to find out they’re at the wrong location. And then they have to go somewhere else to wait in line. This would eliminate that. They would be able to vote at any location,” she said.
In order for this to be set in place it will have to be presented to the Commissioners and the Council. Bedwell hopes to have this in place for the November election.
