UPDATE AT 5:50 P.M.
EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett identified the person who died in the crash as 70-year-old James H. Lutz from Rural Chrisman.
Authorities said a white truck was travelling north before crossing the center lane, and hitting the southbound Black truck driven by Lutz.
After the collision, Lutz’s truck left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway. The white truck traveled north for a short distance before coming to a stop in the southbound lane.
EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — State Police said they are on scene of a fatal crash.
The head-on crash between two vehicles happened on Illinois Route 1 near 1960 East Road in Edgar County around 12:30 p.m. Friday. State Police said one person was declared dead on the scene. Another person was being airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
State Police has closed Illinois Route 1 while officers investigate.
Traffic is being re-routed with support from the Illinois Department of Transportation. State Police ask drivers to use an alternate route.
