VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Knox County students involved in music or other arts programs could earn some extra funding for college in the form of the First City Music & Arts Evan Twitty Scholarship.
The $500 scholarship is granted by the First City Music Festival, a 501c3 organization that promotes tourism in Knox County. The group said any extra funds raised each year are put toward providing scholarships to local youth who are pursuing music or art-related majors at an Indiana college or university.
“This 100% volunteer-ran organization believes in the power of music and art to bring
people together and to help build a long-lasting quality of life within our community,” a news release reads. “Evan Twitty was a nationally-acclaimed guitarist and fixture in the local music scene. Our young friend passed too early in 2020 and the First City Music Committee is proud to continue his legacy through the First City Music & Arts Evan Twitty Scholarship to help benefit Knox County youth continuing their study of music and the arts at a higher education institution in Indiana.”
This year the winner of the scholarship will also receive a free weekend pass to the First City Music Festival held September 26-29. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 8.
