TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Sunday marked the start of Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, awareness week around the country, and one group in Terre Haute is hosting a number of informational fundraisers over the next few days.
Pam Grimes, a member of the board of trustees for the Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee Chapter of the National MS Society, said these events are put on by a local support group. Those on hand can learn more about the disease, how it impacts people, and what they can do to help.
The first event will be Tuesday, March 12, outside MCL Cafeteria in Meadows Shopping Center from 11-2 p.m. There will be a second booth set up at Baesler’s on Thursday, March 14 at the same time.
Grimes said this was a cause that’s very important to her — and others impacted by the disease.
“I’m hoping in my lifetime, to find a cure for MS. I’ve been working at raising funds since 1998 or 1999, and I turned 65 this year,” she said. “I just want to make it so the next generation doesn’t have to hear that they have MS.”
There will also be a fundraiser at Azzip Pizza Wednesday, as the restaurant will donate 20% of proceeds to the National MS Society if you present the flyer below.

Grimes said that research on MS has made significant progress in recent years.
“Supposedly in the last seven years, more research has completed information than the 70 years prior, so that’s really cool,” she said. “A lot of it has to do with the fundraising. Last year, about $32.5 million were raised.”
Anyone who can’t make those events– but wants to support these efforts– can do so on the National MS society website.
