TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana State University is hosting another event to celebrate and recognize Human Rights Day for 2024.
According to a release from ISU, the event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday in the Hulman Memorial Student Union. ISU’s president, Dr. Deborah Curtis will be in attendance to give introductory remarks.
WTWO’s Assignment Manager/Reporter Nicole Krasean will emcee the event, and Co-founder and CEO of the Crane Center for Mass Atrocity Prevention, Marcus Steiner, will be the keynote speaker. Also in attendance will be Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun and Vigo County School Corporation Officials.
Steiner’s presentation for the event is titled “Uyghur Genocide in Xinjiang Province.” The release notes that Steiner’s presentation stems from “a combination of historical tensions, ethnic discrimination, and political agendas.”
After the speaking portion of the event concludes, attendees will be invited to participate in four breakout sessions at various locations throughout the Student Union building. There will also be time for lunch scheduled into the events taking place for Human Rights Day. Participants can expect other presentations scheduled throughout the day which include:
