VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Addressing substance use disorder and its impact on the community was the goal of a first-ever conference in Terre Haute on Monday.
The Drug Free Vigo County Coalition brought together local leaders and organizations for an event called Circles of Change: Community in Action.
The goal was to identify the main substance use issues in the community and how organizations can work together to make a difference.
“We wanted to bring together a lot of different organizations that work with children and families that are going through substance use problems and try to address the issues, and see what we can do to improve our community,” Cammy Reed, Program Coordinator of Drug Free Vigo County for Chances and Services for Youth.
One group in attendance was the Vigo County Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. The organization provided training to help people understand how drug activity impacts children and what can be done to help them.
The Alliance’s Vice Chair, Michael Rentfro, said its something that affects the whole community so he encourages people to come together.
“Get involved,” Rentfro said. “Join our coalition. Join our alliances. Whatever it takes, we could use the help.”
