FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hoosier families looking for help filing for financial aid for their college-bound children can do so this weekend.
College Goal Sunday is February 25, and financial aid professionals will be volunteering at 40 sites around Indiana to help families get free help in filing the FASFA form.
Families have to file the FAFSA in order to be eligible for the State of Indiana’s federal financial aid with April 15 being the deadline to guarantee aid from the state for those who qualify.
Here locally, the College Goal Sunday event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Ivy Tech’s Terre Haute campus.
“Indiana is first in the Midwest and fifth in the nation in providing need-based financial aid to Hoosier students. Each year, Hoosiers have access to over $400 million in state financial aid and billions of dollars in federal aid,” said Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Chris Lowery. “Increasing the number of FAFSA filings will lead to many Hoosiers realizing their higher education possibilities are more tangible than otherwise thought. Not only is the FAFSA a huge step in unlocking potential career options and better outcomes for individuals, but it is also a key to strengthening our communities as a whole.”
With the College Goal Sunday event in its 35th year, the program has helped more than 98,0000 Hoosier students.
