BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A woman has been killed after being struck by a car in Bloomington, and a man arrested and charged with leaving the scene.
That’s according to Monroe County Sheriff Ruben Marté, who said dispatch was made aware of a person walking along S.R. 37 near Dillman Road wearing dark clothing at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday.
“Approximately 3 minutes later, several callers reported the individual had been hit, but they had not witnessed the accident,” the sheriff’s release said.
Investigating detectives and reconstruction units were called to the location where they found the body of a recently deceased female lying in the roadway.
Sheriff Marté said the investigation led police to arrest Dustin Eason, 38, of Bloomington. Eason was reportedly taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for a blood draw chemical test before being taken to the Monroe County Jail. The sheriff did not disclose any results of the test.
Eason has been preliminarily charged with the level 4 felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Sheriff Marté did not identify the deceased female, stating that the information would be released pending notification of family members.
