TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The eclipse is less than 50 days away– and organizers in Terre Haute believe residents should start planning out what their plans are for the day.
There are plenty of locations offering parking and viewing opportunities around the area– which has been a focus Susan Turner, who’s helped lead a local task force for the event.
“Every location is kind of handling logistics on their own,” she said. “There are things going on in city parks, county parks, The Mill is opening up for parking, Sycamore Winery is doing things, the different campuses for higher education are doing things.”
The weekend is sure to see increased traffic all around the valley.
Heather Cosme Milian is the natural resources programmer for Vigo County Parks. She said all three parks– Fowler, Prairie Creek and Hawthorn- are offering camping for eclipse weekend as hotels have been getting booked up.

“[At the parks,] we’ve got reservations from people all the way out in New Jersey and even Montana as well,” she said. “There is going to be a lot going on that weekend and everything’s going to be super busy in town.”
Milian said Fowler Park will be the busiest location on April 8th.
“We’re going to have it setup kind of similar to our pioneer days event. We’re going to be having food trucks here, along with some of our market vendors and our pioneer cabins are going to be open,” she said.
Turner said she thinks the years of preparations will payoff once the time comes this April.
“As a community and as a collective, everyone has worked so hard to make sure that everyone that comes can enjoy and have a good time,” she said.
