WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — While Friday’s snowstorm caught a lot of people in the Wabash Valley off guard, INDOT was ready to go.
They were doing preparation work for this storm since 4 a.m. Thursday morning. Public relations director for INDOT Crawfordsville District Blake Dollier said that storms like this are all-hands-on- deck situations.
“They are full speed ahead, revved up and ready to go,” he said. “These guys and gals are out there working tirelessly throughout the nighttime hours and throughout maybe some hours they could be spending with their families, but they are out there taking care of the roads for the drivers and doing a really good job.”
This storm has caused the road conditions in a lot of areas to be a hazard to drivers. Sgt. Matt Ames of Indiana State Police Department said that the best thing all drivers can do in these conditions is to simply slow down.
He added that in case you do end up in a situation where you are in an accident or break down, it is important to have extra resources.
“Make sure you have extra blankets, extra jackets, a toboggan, and a cell phone charger in case you do get stuck you will be able to charge your cell phone and be able to make your phone calls and send your text messages to let the people know where you are heading to be able to go there,” he said.
Dollier said that INDOT will be out cleaning the roads until everything is completely clean.
“We are going to keep on trucking through and keep making sure that everybody’s roads are in as best of shape as possible,” he added.
Officials from both INDOT and ISP want everyone to be as safe as possible this weekend as there are many more people on the roads due to NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
