WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A very talented senior at West Vigo High School is getting ready once again to perform with the top high school musicians from around the state.
Jack Nesser has been selected to play the Piccolo for the Indiana Bandmaster Association’s All-State Honors Ensemble.
The concert will be held in March at Purdue University.
This isn’t his first time playing with Indiana’s top high school musicians. And his musical talent also includes arrangement and compositions.
Nesser has composed pieces that have been performed not only by bands and choirs here in the Wabash Valley, but also around the country.
“I’ve found that composition has been a huge way for me to express myself emotionally and to share my stories, and my perspective of things,” Nesser said. “It’s been really wonderful being able to share that with my peers here at school, with community ensembles and groups all across the country.”
Nesser says the first big piece he composed was titled “To New Beginnings” and was performed by the Terre Haute Community Band. The piece also won a competition at Heidelburg University and was performed by an honors ensemble there, giving Nesser his first visiting composer experience.
Nesser said he was recently commissioned by the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra League to compose a flute and harp duo piece. He added that the Terre Haute Children’s Choir also commissioned him to compose a piece commemorating the upcoming eclipse in April.
