VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Teenagers in Vincennes and Knox County now have a new and safe place to gather after the school day.
On Wednesday, a Teen Center opened at the Old Town players Theatre. About 8 months ago, the theatre was approached by Vincennes City Administration about converting the building’s basement into a meeting place for teens.
The space was renovated with local students helping out with the effort.
The new Teen Center is equipped with televisions, games, and even educational programming.
Steven Gray is the treasurer of Old Town Players Theatre and said the goal is to provide a safe place for teens to gather after school.
“Studies have shown there’s juvenile issues after school with kids that aren’t supervised and this gives them something to do,” Gray said. “A lot of people have talked about teen centers in the past when they were kids, some of us older folks, and now we’ve got one again.”
A number of organizations and agencies are involved in operating the teen center.
