VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An Amazon delivery building is reportedly heading to the area and bringing along with it 90-100 full and part time jobs.
That’s according to the Vigo County Redevelopment Commission, that approved the plans for the $10,800,000 investment during Tuesday’s meeting.
Steve Witt, the President of the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation, said talks began last summer.
“They knew exactly where they wanted to be in our Vigo County Industrial Park,” he said. “I think that speaks volumes about the park itself and then also the community, wanting to be here. It’s our understanding this will serve about an hour radius from Terre Haute and Vigo County.”
The facility will be about 47,000 square feet, and will be located at the southwestern corner of the intersection of Carlisle Road and Industrial Drive. Witt said during busier times of the year for package deliveries, there should be additional jobs available through private contractors.
“They also work with private contractors to deliver packages during peak times like Christmas and so forth. There will be approximately an equal number of jobs for those folks during peak times of the year, so up to 200 jobs but certainly not all full time,” he said.
Construction should begin in the coming months. Per the agreement, the facility needs to be done within four years. While Witt doesn’t know the exact timeline, he said it should be finished well within that time.
