ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — It’s a big day for Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College as it holds its single-largest fundraising day of the year.
The goal on Woods Giving Day is to reach 1,000 unique donors in 24 hours. The money raised goes toward the Woods Fund, which is the college’s unrestricted operating budget.

It helps pay for things like scholarships, renovating historic buildings on campus, and helping academic and athletic programs grow.
Over 100 people volunteered to make phone calls to potential donors today. Among those volunteers are the board of trustee members, faculty, staff, alumni, and of course students.
“Today’s very important for students like myself,” Polet Horton, senior at SMWC said. “I’m a first-generation student, so it just kind of really helps students to afford to come to college and it’s a really special day for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in just supporting their students to participate and have their own legacy here at the woods.”
The fundraising effort continues until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. People can donate online at the college’s website or call one of the volunteers before 9:00 p.m. at 888-769-001.
