VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County residents needing to dispose of old mattresses or furniture now have a new opportunity to do that.
Starting this week, the Vigo County Solid Waste Management will accept those items from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
People dropping off items just need to check in at the office first, located at 3230 East Haythorne Avenue. The crews will then help you load the items into the dumpster. Officials are hoping this effort discourages illegal dumping.
“We just know that there’s going to be a lot of visitors to our community with the total eclipse, with the casino opening, that this is just our way of helping maintain a good image,” Karrum Nasser, Executive Director of Vigo County Solid Waste Management District said.
Nasser also said there’s a limit of two for each item you’re bringing per visit. They’re also accepting tires year-round for recycling with a set of four tires per visit allowed and agriculture equipment tires will not be accepted.
