The Indiana Department of Transportation announces the relocation of a traffic signal on U.S. 41 at the entrance of the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute.
A new signal will be constructed at the intersection of U.S. 41 and McCallister Drive (Hospital Lane), located half a block north of the former location.
INDOT, Vigo County officials, and fair board leadership have held discussions about the signal relocation to improve safety and provide better access to McCallister Drive (Hospital Lane), the fairgrounds, and commercial outlots.
INDOT has encouraged the fairgrounds to relocate its drive to the U.S. 41/McCallister Drive (Hospital Lane) intersection at its convenience through the INDOT permit process.
Earlier this week, INDOT was made aware that the signal was not functioning due to circumstances involving a private entity that is financially responsible for the signal’s electrical service. As a result, INDOT is accelerating the process of moving the signal.
Construction of the new signal is expected to be complete prior to the Vigo County Fair in July.
Original: A traffic light on U.S. 41 near the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds will be moved half a block north.
According to Blake Dollier with the Indiana Department of Transportation, the change will make it easier and safer to get from U.S. 41 to Regional Hospital.
The light will be moved slightly north of its current location up to the intersection of U.S. 41 and Hospital Lane.
The fairgrounds will then have an opportunity to change its entrance to coincide with the new location of the light.
“When you have a hospital system, you obviously want to makes that as easy for folks to use as possible and if there is anything we can do to do that, that’s what we’re gonna do here at INDOT,” Dollier said.
In the next week or two INDOT expects to finalize a timeline for when the light will be moved.
